I'm back....again!

So I had taken a break recently from photography. I seemed to have lost my creative motivation and desire, but I have found it once again thanks to the DC Cosplay Photo group.   My first shoot with them was Superheroes vs Villains theme where I had a lot of fun.  Not only was I impressed with the quality of the costumes, I also got to see some interesting ideas for additional equipment to buy.  My next post will list my current equipment.

Unexpected Treasures - Annapolis Sunrise

This morning I lead a group of photographers to the docks in Annapolis to catch the morning sunrise.  Getting up at 2am to be at the Herndon Park & Ride by 3:30.  Leaving promptly at 4am, the drive to Annapolis was peaceful.  We arrived in Annapolis at about 5:10 and had a little bit of time before the first rays of the morning started to show their face at 5:30am.  Since I have done this 2 times previously I really wasn't too interested in taking pictures but more for being a mentor/resource for other photographers.  I did manage to take a few though.

I think the meetup was a success.  Only 2 people were no-shows which is much better than previous meetups where half would be no-shows.  I am really hoping that I can jumpstart the Unexpected Treasures meetup group and get members to be more active.

Happy New Year - 2013

Ok so I am a little over a month off, but my real job, the one that pays for my expensive camera hobby has been keeping me busy.  Plus it's been cold outside and haven't had the motivation to get out and shoot.  It doesn't mean I haven't been thinking of my next projects though...

I have been evaluating the direction I would like to go from a professional level.  I really love working in the studio, so I will always leave that option available.  However I think I am going to focus my attention on trying to become a pet photographer.  So if you want some pictures of your pet, I'm doing free photo shoots while I build my portfolio.  Your cost is only for prints.

I'm back....

Life has been a little slow for me this year.  With my ankle being broken back since the latter part of February, it's been hard to get around and be on my feet for any real length of time.  However, now that I am getting better it's back to doing what I like doing most.  I even added a new lens to my arsenal:  The Nikon 85mm f/1.8G lens.

I'm hoping to be a little more active going forward with posts on my photography, and/or tips I have found on the web or discovered.  I'll also be posting in the next week or so my favorite photography links.

Finally, if you like photography and live in the VA/DC/MD area, look at joining Unexpected Treasures (www.unexpectedtreasures.com).  It's a local photography group where I am a co-organizer.  We have workshops and various photo trips locally and within a few hours drive.  The photography expertise ranges from studio photography to outdoor photography and everything in between.  Come check us out.

Alpha Sigma Alpha Event

Saturday April 2, 2011 at the M&S Grill in Reston Town Center, I had the opportunity to photograph a reunion of ASA (Alpha Sigma Alpha) sorority girls, though I guess now they are women.  However you wouldn't know that by the high pitched squeals of excitement as friends of past saw each other and reunited with their past.  I do have to say, I have not seen so many coach bags, in one place.  Don't ask me how I can spot one LOL.

The women were lovely, friendly and definitely not camera shy.  I wish most of the models I worked with were as easy to work with as the ASA women.

For those who were at the event.  Jen (Summers) Standford will be e-mailing out all of the info on obtaining a CD with all of the images.
